Abstract
This Energy Insights report studies the work and asset management spending
patterns of the energy delivery (i.e., transmission and distribution) business
in the utility industry. Twice each year, Energy Insights releases work and
asset management software spending numbers as part of our Worldwide Utility
Industry IT Spending Guide (Energy Insights #EI203719, September 2006).
Although the numbers themselves serve as valuable tools, it is also important
to understand what drives utilities to spend their dollars on work and asset
management and how they divide that spending among different technologies. This
in-depth look at spending patterns includes:
- Defining the technologies associated with work and asset management
- Segmenting work and asset management software spending by region and discussing regional business drivers
- Segmenting work and asset management spending into three key technology segments - software, hardware, and services
- Looking at future trends in work and asset management spending
- Offering essential guidance that utility companies and industry vendors should take away from this report
"Although largely developing regions - Central and Eastern Europe, Latin
America, and the Middle East and Africa - make up a small proportion of
worldwide work and asset management spending, these areas are experiencing high
growth rates and large-scale privatization efforts. As a result, they will
likely offer more substantial work and asset management opportunities in the
future." - H. Christine Richards, research analyst, Energy Insights
