Altana Pharma, formerly known as Byk Gulden. This report provides a full

approximately 13,400 employees worldwide. The Altana Group is composed of the
strategic management holding company, Altana AG, and two operating divisions,
Altana Pharma AG and ALTANA Chemie AG.
Altana Pharma AG, headquartered in Konstanz, Germany, is an international
pharmaceutical group with more than 8,800 employees and over 30 subsidiaries
in Europe, North and Latin America, Asia, South Africa and Australia. The
company concentrates on innovative pharmaceutical products in therapeutics,
imaging (contrast media) and OTC medication. Therapeutics, the most important
business area, is based on prescription drugs for gastrointestinal and
respiratory diseases.
Current Growth Drivers
Pantozol (pantoprazole) was the third proton pump inhibitor (PPI) to be
developed worldwide and has been extensively licensed to companies around the
globe. In 2005, pantoprazole generated over half of Altana' s pharmaceutical
sales.
Key Late-Stage Products
Daxas (roflumilast) is an oral, once-daily, selective phosphodiesterase IV
inhibitor, in Phase III trials for the treatment of asthma and COPD. It may
also have potential in several other inflammatory conditions, including atopic
dermatitis and psoriasis. The company considers Daxas to have blockbuster
potential.
