Braun Melsungen AG (Braun), headquartered in Melsungen, Germany, is a global manufacturer of healthcare products for hospitals and the non-clinical sector, with approximately 30,000 employees worldwide. The company' s portfolio comprises more than 30,000 products, including anaesthetics, infusion systems, infusion solutions, surgical instruments, orthopaedic implants, equipment for extracorporeal treatment, sutures, products for wound care and disinfection, as well as services such as consultancy for hospitals and patients, dialysis centres or professional training and education. Braun also has an OEM business through which it provides a wide range of products and contract manufacturing services. In fiscal 2004, ended 31st December 2004, Braun' s sales rose by 5.5% to EUR 2.8 billion, driven by strong sales in Europe, excluding Germany, while operating profit rose by 23.1% to EUR 213.1 million.

Braun' s products and services are organised within four principal divisions: the Hospital Care division, Aesculap, the Out Patient Market (OPM) division and the MedTech division.

Braun' s largest division, the Hospital Care division, offers infusion solutions, anaesthetics, infusion apparatus and accessories. In fiscal 2004, sales at the Hospital Care division rose by 3.9% to EUR 1.3 billion and accounted for 48.2% of the company' s total revenue.

The Aesculap division offers surgical instruments, suture materials, spinal implants and navigation systems. In fiscal 2004, Aesculap' s sales rose by 4% to EUR 811.8 million and accounted for 29.1% of Braun' s total revenue.

Sales in the OPM division, which offers products for enteral and parenteral nutrition, wound care and diabetes, rose by 4.9% to EUR 374.3 million in fiscal 2004 and accounted for 13.4% of Braun' s total revenue.

The MedTech division offers product systems and services for extracorporeal blood treatment. Sales at MedTech increased by 24% to EUR 248.7 million in 2004 and accounted for 8.9% of Braun' s total revenue.
