Abstract
Demand to grow nearly 5% annually through 2010
Roofing demand in China has expanded 7.3 percent per year over the last decade
and reached 2.2 billion square meters in 2005. Demand gains will continue to
outpace the global roofing market, rising 4.9 percent annually through 2010 to
more than 2.7 billion square meters, benefitting from robust growth in the
booming construction industry in China.
International roofing product manufacturers and distributors recognize the
tremendous market potential that China offers. However, planning for expansion
into China is difficult due to the lack of reliable market information.
Freedonia' s new study, Roofing in China, provides you with information and
analysis that you need to plan for your company' s positioning in China. Is the
emerging Chinese economy a threat or opportunity to your organization?
Asphalt shingles, modified bitumen membranes and plastic to post outstanding demand gains
Asphalt shingles will represent the fastest growing roofing product category
through 2010. Gains will be spurred by a booming residential construction
market as well as increasing popularity of steep-slope roofs in China. In
addition, markets for modified bitumen membranes and plastic roofing are also
expected to post outstanding gains. Market growth in these product categories
will be spurred by strong growth in the building construction market in China,
and further supported by increasing use of these products as they replace
conventional built-up roofing and asphalt roll roofing for low-slope roofing
applications. For steep-slope roofing applications, asphalt shingles and metal
roofing systems are expected to perform the best. However, conventional
concrete and clay tile roofing will continue to dominate the steepslope
roofing market through 2010.
