Abstract
Flooring demand in China to rise 7.3% yearly through 2010
Demand for hard surface flooring in China is expected to grow 7.3 percent per
year through 2010 to 3 billion square meters. Measured in yuan, flooring
demand will expand over ten percent per year, reaching 174 billion in 2010.
The Chinese flooring market will outpace growth in most other parts of the
world, driven by healthy gains in building construction activity as
industrialization efforts continue and income levels rise. Government efforts
to further increase average per capita living space and privatize home
ownership and sustained strength in foreign direct investment funding.
Laminate flooring to grow 16% annually
Nonresilient flooring accounts for over ninety percent of overall Chinese hard
surface floor covering demand measured in square meters. Laminate flooring
sales will expand nearly 16 percent annually in square meters through 2010.
Demand will be stimulated by laminate' s outstanding performance
characteristics such as resistance to scratching and nicking, ease of
maintenance and repair, and the ability to mimic more costly stone and solid
wood flooring. Ceramic floor tile will remain the dominant nonresilient
flooring type, accounting for over two thirds of the overall hard surface
flooring market.
