Abstract
This Financial Insights study analyzes the results of a Financial Insights/IDC survey carried out
in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The results are based on 57 interviews in
insurance market. This study analyzes investment priorities and 2005 investment plans for horizontal
solutions.
"In terms of horizontal solutions, the attention of European insurance companies is on
security technologies, business intelligence/data warehouse and ERP/back-office solutions. IT
vendors will have a major role in providing the hardware, software, and IT services necessary to
establish consolidated and more efficient processes across internal and external insurance staff to
better exploit these solutions. European insurance providers are looking for the best practices to
reduce costs, including claims, and to enhance the performance of distribution channels. IT vendors
need to gain a larger confidence of insurance companies by demonstrating they can quickly understand
their requirements. This will represent the key competitive element to successfully serve insurance
companies with horizontal enterprise solutions," says Mirko Corbetta, research analyst,
