Abstract
This Financial Insights report charts the economic improvements in Japan as the
financial system of the world's second-largest economy returns to growth.
Amid this recovery and corresponding upswing in corporate IT investments, we
are witnessing a growing receptivity of financial institutions toward foreign
technology. "Key aims of this study are to identify some noteworthy vendors
within the Japanese banking and capital markets arena and why they are slowly
but surely gaining a toehold into the previously insular industry," clarifies
Li-May Chew, CFA, senior research manager for Financial Insights Asia/Pacific
Capital Markets Advisory Service.
The discussion also offers suggestions for institutions already immersed in, or
attempting to capture a slice of, the Japanese financial sector. Meanwhile, for
foreign IT vendors mulling how best to penetrate a market dominated by massive
incumbents, we share with them lessons that can be learned from their Japanese
peers.
