Abstract
This report examines the state of development of mobile payments across the
financial and telecoms industries and assesses the challenges and future
outlook. It considers whether these developments will allow mobile payments to
transition from a niche application restricted to certain applications,
countries, or market segments into a mass market phenomenon where the mobile
phone can form part of the an integrated retail ecosystem for banks and telecom
operators.

somewhat different. Successful take-up of mpayments is therefore dependent on
