Abstract
The fine chemicals market has been reported as one of the fastest growing,
highest margin sectors within the chemicals industry. Such growth has been
fuelled by the feverish activity made from developments in chiral technology.
The emphasis of this report is to comprehensively assess the current state of
the chiral technologies that are used in the production of enantiomerically pure
molecules for the pharmaceutical industry. The report aims to provide a general
overview of the broad spectrum of technologies available; including traditional,
asymmetric and biological techniques – the latter of which are covered in
greater detail in an attempt to mirror the surge of interest made in these
sectors. In addition, an analysis of the key competitors in each sector is
critically appraised.
