Abstract
Welcome to the 19th IDA Worldwide Desalting Plant Inventory. The International
Desalination Association (IDA) has sponsored a biennial listing of all the
desalination plants with a capacity of more than 100ms/d since 1970.
It gives information on approximately 12,300 desalination projects in 155
countries around the world with a combined capacity of 47 million cubic metres
contracted since before December 31 2005. Year-on-year growth rates are
difficult to ascertain because large plants (such as the 800,000m3/d Shoaiba
III plant in Saudi Arabia) skew the data. However comparing the average annual
capacity contracted over between 2001 and 2005 and the average annual capacity
contracted over the previous five years, suggests that the market for new
capacity is growing at the rate of 25% per year.
For the first time ever the inventory is presented as an Excel spreadsheet
rather than as a print report. This dramatically increases the utility of the
data, particularly if you can use Pivot Tables (if you can' t spent two minutes
reading the FAQ on the subject - whenever you use Excel in future you will
always be thankful that you invested the time).
The inventory held in the worksheet labelled "All plants". You can find it by
clicking on the "All plants" table at the bottom of the screen. Use the arrows
in the bottom right hand corner of the screen to navigate between the tabs -
there are 68 coloured tabs in total. Creating the inventory has involved
considerable investment over many years. For that reason we will guard our
copyright jealously. Each numbered copy is licenced for a single office
location only. We have included security codes to track misuse and seeded the
data. See ' Frequently Asked Questions' for further details of permissions.
