Abstract
There has been much activity on many fronts in this past year with respect to
the increased adoption of ambulatory EMRs, as evidenced by numerous surveys,
but the point of inflection has yet to be reached. This report highlights and
examines the implications of some of these key activities and policy
initiatives and analyzes some recent benchmark data and new product
introductions to assess its success to date, identify key impediments retarding
progress and potential catalysts to accelerate adoption. Health Industry
Insights expects progress to continue strongly but unevenly across the industry.
"While we believe the recent efforts to upgrade the state of HIT here in the
U.S. should be viewed with guarded optimism, we emphasize guarded. While the
recent introduction of several SaaS-based EMR products represent one potential
catalyst, absent a dramatic shift in federal HIT funding policies, the rate of
progress towards the President' s 2014 goal will likely continue to proceed at
its current glacial pace", said Marc Holland, Program Director for Provider IT
Research.
