Abstract
This Health Industry Insights report is the first of a four-part series on our
healthcare IT maturity model for Western European hospitals and describes where
16 countries rank in this model. The countries are Austria, Belgium, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway,
Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Future reports
will examine the market segmentation of leaders, followers, and laggards.
Northern European hospitals lead the region, while continental Europe and Spain
follow. "The Western European hospitals are in the midst of a journey to become
digital virtual enterprises," states Lynne A. Dunbrack, program director,
Health Industry Insights. "They are caught between the effort to optimize and
automate their internal administrative and clinical processes and the
country-level efforts to spur coordination for the establishment of national
electronic health records as the foundation of remote and home care services.
Lack of coordination and anemic funding have slowed down smaller countries so
far."
