Abstract
This Health Industry Insights report is the fourth of a four-part series on our
healthcare IT maturity model for Western European hospitals; the report
describes the five countries that rank the lowest according to this model.
Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Switzerland are considered the least
advanced countries in Western Europe with respect to the maturity and
pervasiveness of their HIT environments. The other three reports provide an
overview of healthcare IT in Western Europe and examine the market segmentation
of leaders and followers.
"Italy, Greece, Portugal, Ireland, and Switzerland trail," reports Lynne A.
Dunbrack, program director, Health Industry Insights. "They suffer from late
political commitment to ehealth, a lack of funding, and a generally low level
of IT adoption in their hospitals and physician offices."
