Abstract
This Health Industry Insights report details IT spending expectations for 2008
within the life science sales and marketing industry segment. The first half of
the report presents budgeted IT spend by hardware, software, and IT services.
The second half of the report breaks down sales and marketing IT further,
covering specific spending plans across 22 IT technology categories. Sales and
marketing IT spend in the life sciences will moderately slow during 2008, but
continue at a steady clip of 5.4% growth.
Eric Newmark, research manager at Health Industry Insights, comments,
"Increasing regulation on sales and marketing activity, particularly in the
pharmaceutical market, is driving IT spending toward solutions that enhance,
yet simplify, compliance efforts. Further, as industry margins continue to
shrink because of patent expirations, pricing pressure, shrinking product
pipelines, and longer development cycles, increasing pressure is being placed
on sales force effectiveness, driving increasing need for sales-supporting
solutions such as sales force automation (SFA), customer relationship
management (CRM), and predictive modeling."
