Abstract
This IDC study analyzes the midrange enterprise server market, which includes systems costing
between $25,000 and $499,999. Data is presented for both the U.S. and worldwide markets; data is
presented by vendor for unit shipments and factory revenue (US$), by operating system, and by price
band. The data published in this document is based on annual IDC data that has been published in
Worldwide Server 2004 Vendor Shares: Year in Review (IDC #32782, February 2005).
"The midrange enterprise server segment has declined over the last few years, but the
products offered within this category are vital to the ongoing operations of many enterprises
worldwide," said Jean S. Bozman, research vice president, IDC Enterprise Computing Group.
"Although the days of double-digit growth are over for the foreseeable future, business
conditions are improving, and IDC forecasts single-digit growth for the midrange enterprise server
market through 2009, the end of the forecast period."
