Abstract
This IDC study provides an overview of the external disk storage market based
on the current China storage market tracker for 2004, with an emphasis on
storage capacity and revenue. It introduces China's market drivers and
inhibitors, an industry overview, and regional statistics to describe the
market's dynamic trends. Furthermore, IDC provides a five-year market forecast
including breakdowns by OS-related market growth and by network.
"The competition among IBM, HP, and EMC will further heat up in most major
industries, in every area. Dell and HDS, despite opposing product lines and
market strategies, have both rapidly increased market shares since early 2004,
and will continue this trend in 2005. It is obvious that no single external
disk manufacturer will capture the majority of the market any longer. Moreover,
the consolidation of storage products in different levels and on different
platforms will make up a large proportion of the future storage market," says
