Abstract
This IDC study analyzes the state of the market for UHF RFID hardware
infrastructure compliant with EPCglobal standards, charts its history and
development, and examines expectations for the future. Special attention is
given to technology considerations for early adopters and the forces driving
and inhibiting growth in the market. A base scenario and an optimistic scenario
for the evolution of the market are provided, and a market forecast covering
the period 2005-2009 is provided.
"The market for RFID network infrastructure, while small, is fast approaching a
point of inflection with products that are ready for commercial deployment and
mounting demand driven by mandates and emerging business cases. We stand at the
foot of the adoption curve, and there are a number of challenges ahead for the
hardware, including dealing with system management and security. In general,
however, we expect the market to grow as much as 30% per year through 2009." -
