Abstract
This document offers data and analysis of IDC's 2005 European storage survey,
which was conducted by phone during the fourth calendar quarter of 2005. 508
end users were surveyed in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the
Nordics. All respondents were either directly involved in storage purchasing or
had some type of influence over storage purchases.
"Customers expect their budgets allocated to storage to remain intact if not
increase," said Claus Egge, program director European Storage research. "Many
of the recent solutions, such as SAN, NAS, iSCSI, and Serial ATA are recognized
as valuable by more and more customers."
Among other things, this survey is intended to:
- Document past and future investments in storage
- Determine end-user adoption of storage area networks, network attached storage, iSCSI, Serial ATA and virtualization
- Key drivers for storage and priorities of storage customers
- Key concerns surrounding current backup solutions
