Abstract
This IDC study provides an overview of the Australian digital home market
dynamics. New business models and their implications on the digital home market
are also discussed.
"The Australian digital home market will become increasingly complex with
broadband service providers (BSPs), IT and consumer electronics (CE) vendors
competing for control of the home. In 2005, IDC witnessed IT and CE vendors
positioning their digital devices as media hubs of the home. This year, IDC
expects competition to heighten as BSPs are investigating Internet Protocol
television IPTV and home gateway possibilities, while IT vendors continue to
capitalise on the diverse and dynamic CE market, stimulating new business
models - service and device integration - to drive services around devices,"
says Sophie Lo, research analyst, Consumer Digital Markets, IDC Australia.
