This IDC study forecasts the size of the U.S. home automation and management
market in the context of a network-based home network. It outlines the drivers
and inhibitors of the market, provides the foundation for the market, and
points out areas of growth and opportunity.
"In home networking, beyond connected entertainment lie home automation,
management, and control. The components for this market are coming together,
albeit gradually. With technologies like ZigBee, Z-Wave, and Insteon maturing,
device manufacturers and component suppliers are beginning to pay attention.
The technology is not going to be like the Jetson's, but the decades-old
promise of home automation, monitoring, and control is beginning to emerge,"
said Jonathan Gaw, research manager for IDC's Consumer Markets: Home Networking
program.
