Abstract
This IDC study examines the growing home networking market in the Asia/Pacific
(excluding Japan) or APEJ region, specifically looking at the following six key
markets tracked by IDC Asia/Pacific's Consumer Markets Research team -
Australia, India, Korea, the People's Republic of China (PRC), Singapore,
Taiwan, and the rest of Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or ROAPEJ. Growth in the
home networking sector remains driven by the confluence of multiple factors -
the continued household penetration of broadband in APEJ, the growing
popularity of notebook computers in the home, the rapidly declining equipment
costs, and the swift proliferation of digital consumer electronics (CE) devices
and digital content in APEJ homes.
"Data networking functions continue to drive home networking adoption to date
in the APEJ region and this situation is unlikely to change throughout the
forecast period," says Claudio Checchia, research manager, Consumer Markets
Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. He further states, "Consumers across APEJ have been
struggling with the concept of connected devices within the digital home,
showing limited interest in multimedia and entertainment networks. However, by
the end of the forecast period, IDC expects entertainment devices and solutions
to rapidly gain popularity, driving the adoption of multimedia and
entertainment networks across the APEJ region."
