Abstract
This IDC study evaluates the results of an online survey of attendees to the
IDC-Kahn Consulting 2006 Compliance in Information Management Forum, which was
held in Santa Clara, California, in May 2006. The objective of this survey was
to gauge the business and technology maturity and investment priorities of
participants as they pertain to regulatory and legal requirements.
"The results of the survey suggest that the forum accomplished its objectives
to help records managers and compliance officers understand their
responsibilities and chart an effective road map for information risk
management," says Vivian Tero, senior research analyst, Compliance
Infrastructure. "An overwhelming majority of the respondents continued to cite
regulatory requirements as the key driver of their investments in records
retention programs. IDC believes organizations will begin to expand the scope
of information classes that will be covered by their records retention programs
as they become more aware of the implications of the revisions to the Federal
Rules of Civil Procedure for Electronic Discovery."
