Abstract
This study presents the results of surveys of delegates at IDC's SOA
conferences in Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Oslo during May 2006. Delegates were
asked a number of in-depth questions about the deployment of, and attitudes
towards, SOA in their own organizations. These results are presented as a set
of figures with accompanying analysis, and are contrasted with the results of
similar surveys conducted in Amsterdam and London a few weeks earlier, which
are documented in the IDC study SOA Adoption in U.K. and Netherlands - Survey
Results at IDC SOA Conferences, April 2006 (Doc #AD05N).
According to Rob Hailstone, IDC's European research director, Software
Infrastructure and SOA, "The surveys show a greater tendency in the Nordic
countries, particularly Sweden, to take a purely tactical approach to SOA.
While this can bring short-term benefits, it is important for vendors and
systems integrators to emphasize the need to educate customers in appropriate
governance procedures that can avoid costly management and inflexibility in the
longer term."
