Abstract
This IDC study is a competitive analysis of the Western European identity and
access management market. Vendor analysis, with revenue and market shares of
the leading vendors, is provided for 2003 to 2005. An identity and access
management (IAM) tools leadership grid is included that graphically depicts the
leadership potential of various vendors by assessing a number of competitive
factors. Finally, major trends are described and guidance is offered on
appropriate strategies for leveraging market opportunities.
"In 2005, the Western European market for identity and access management showed
growth of 13%, with $942.0 million in revenues, which translates into about
?753.6 million," said Anita Liess, program manager of IDC's European security
products and strategies program. "Looking ahead, IDC expects similar market
growth rates of approximately 10.1% for the coming years. Future revenue will
predominantly come from federated identity projects, meta-directories, Web SSO,
two-factor authentication technologies, and new biometric user identification.
IDC expects further IAM spending to be fundamental in order to avoid identity
theft maintaining an organization's reputation."
