Abstract
This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J6030114,
sizes the Japan storage utility services market in 2005 and provides a forecast
up to 2010. IDC analyzes the storage utility services market from two
perspectives - the types of services provided and the types of connections
used. By IDC' s taxonomy, there are two types of storage services - "primary
data outsourcing" and "backup and archive service." Likewise, there are two
connection types - "datacenter connection" and "remote connection."
"The Japan storage utility regained vigor in 2005 after pulling out of the
temporary lull in 2004. The Internet storage market, in particular, saw a
marked rise in user numbers. While there are security and cost issues to be
resolved, some providers are already on the expansion track and market growth
is forecast," says Yasusuke Suzuki, research manager, Storage Systems, IDC
Japan.
