Abstract

This IDC study looks at the mobile phone users across Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ to examine their mobile phone preferences and mobile service usage patterns. This survey was conducted in six countries (Australia, India, Hong Kong, China, South Korea, and Thailand) which were jointly commissioned across several research programs to cover the device, services (including data content and applications), and enterprise usage perspectives.

"While peer-to-peer (P2P) text-message sending shows very high frequency of usage, with 66% of respondents using it daily, respondents have yet to latch on to habitual patterns for extended messaging services such as mobile instant messaging (IM) and mobile email despite the indication of some traction. Similarly, extended voice communication services such as push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) and video calls are far from replacing traditional voice calls," says Bill Rojas, director of Comms, Peripherals, & Services Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
