Abstract
This IDC study presents the top 10 predictions for Australia small and
medium-sized businesses (SMBs) for the next 12-24 months. The predictions are
drawn from primary and secondary research conducted in 2007 across all areas of
hardware, software, services, and telecommunications, as well as from briefings
with various vendors that have shared their SMB strategies with IDC Australia.
IDC predicts that SMBs in Australia will undergo a deep transformation in the
coming years. Services and telecommunications providers that will finally start
to offer products suitably designed for SMBs will drive this transformation
mostly from the supply side.
"SMBs, to date, have been restrained in their embrace of technology by a
certain lack of adequate offerings, especially on the services side of the
information and communication technology (ICT) market. This situation is on the
verge of changing with the progress of tier 2 service providers (SPs) that
better understand the needs of SMBs, complemented by the increase in
availability of faster broadband Internet connections, which allow a whole
range of services to be delivered remotely," says Jean-Marc Annonier, research
manager, IT Spending and SMB, IDC Australia.
