Abstract
This IDC study provides our analysis of the top 10 trends affecting the
telecommunications industry for 2008. Consolidation of major networks and
overall network expansion enabling increased wireless backhaul and video
distribution to multiple screens will continue to spur service provider
investments in new infrastructure for the foreseeable future.
"The need to support data and video applications across television, personal
computers, and mobile devices continues to drive network expansion and
consolidation," said Eve Griliches, program manager, Telecom Equipment. "This
trend has generated strong vendor shipments for equipment, IP routers, Ethernet
switches, and access devices in 2007 and will continue to drive the market for
intelligent devices in the network to support next-generation video
applications."
