Abstract
This IDC study discusses the current market for enterprise fixed-mobile
convergence (FMC) services in the United States and provides a summary of
current offerings by U.S. service providers. It also includes a revenue and
subscriber forecast for 2006 to 2011. With FMC, users benefit from the features
and capabilities associated with both fixed-line and wireless networks. Players
in the space are racing to deliver products that address ever-increasing
employee mobility, growth in IP adoption, availability of WiFi networks, poor
indoor mobile phone coverage and - most important - enterprises' need for tools
that help them improve employee efficiency and manage network complexity.
"FMC is an emerging concept that will only see traction in this market once
enterprises can grasp the true productivity gains and cost savings gains it can
provide," explains Carrie MacGillivray, senior research analyst, Mobile
Enterprise Network Services.
Rena Bhattacharyya, research manager, Business Network Services, adds,
"Solutions provided by service providers will be further enhanced over the
forecast period, and the introduction of innovative products and services by
device manufacturers and software vendors will augment the market."
