Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8090101)
predicts ten major trends and explores their impact on the Japan PC market in
2008. To elaborate, we shall look at the market changes that may occur in 2008
from various perspectives, including the environment surrounding users, the
commercial PC market, home PC market, technologies such as hardware, impact
from related markets, and the competitive landscape.
"The commercial PC replacement cycle will pull out of the trough and return to
the growth track in 2008. However, the home PC market will remain weak due to
competition from other home appliances. With the Beijing Olympics to be held in
2008, concerns about a further erosion of demand by slim TVs abound. To
invigorate the Japan PC market, efforts to integrate the PCs with technologies
such as UMPC, Blu-ray, HD DVD, PLC, and mobile phone terminals will be
necessary," observes Masahiro Katayama, group manager, PCs, IDC Japan.
