Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7400312)
divides the storage service market into four segments, namely "consulting,"
"implementation and construction service," "management and operation service,"
and "maintenance service," and analyzes the market performance in 2006 (actual)
and 2006-2010 (forecasts). IDC also classifies storage service vendors into
three groups based on business type, namely IT vendors, storage
hardware/software vendors and independent system integrators, and analyzes
their business trends. The storage service businesses of the major vendors are
also analyzed in this study.
"An increasing number of companies have recognized the value of professional
services in addressing issues related to storage system operations and data
management. This has led to an increase in revenue of storage-related
professional and maintenance services in the Japan market. There are many user
challenges to be addressed, such as those related to the burgeoning amount of
data to be managed, compliance, business continuity, security, forensics, and
power efficiency. A wide range of storage products have been introduced to
tackle these issues. However, strong expertise is required to construct storage
infrastructures that are aligned to customers' circumstances and future plans.
