Abstract
This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7400308,
presents the Japan optical automation market' s actual performance from 2004 to
2006 as well as forecasts for 2006 to 2011. Both the actual performance and
forecasts were presented and analyzed in terms of revenue, unit shipment,
technology (CD/DVD, 5.25in. optical disks, and others), and number of slots.
"The Japan market is losing its vigor as competition with other technologies
intensifies and demand for next-generation systems remains low. To invigorate
the market, it is necessary to cultivate a market for next-generation systems
early with participation mainly from new vendors," observes Ayuchi Takamatsu,
research analyst, Storage Systems, IDC Japan.
