Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8010101)
predicts ten major trends and explores their impact on the Japan server market
in 2008. We include an outlook on the changes that will occur from various
perspectives, including the impact from related markets (such as hardware,
software, networking technology, and servers), IT investment trends,
competition among vendors, and the economic and social situations.
"In 2008, efforts to improve the power efficiency of datacenters will gather
momentum. This will create more business opportunities in the market for
servers with low consumption rates and heat values. In addition, the
implementation rate of x86 server virtualization software will increase and an
increasing number of users will carry out server consolidation. The small to
medium office market will be the main battleground for blade servers, products
on which server vendors are currently focused," observes Masahiro Nakamura,
group manager, Server, IDC Japan.
