Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7310108)
looks at the system/network management software and the storage software
markets by product function, OS and vendor, and also provides forecasts for the
period 2007-2011.
The Japan system/network management software market grew 8.4% from the previous
year to reach 228.8 billion yen in 2006. The growth rate remained flat from the
previous year. Meanwhile, the storage software market registered a year-on-year
growth rate of 10.5% to total 69.2 billion yen. As in 2005, a double-digit
growth rate was achieved. "The increasingly rife competition among vendors and
the shift from mainframes to open systems may cause prices to fall. At the same
time, user system environments are getting more heterogeneous. The systems
managed are also getting more complex and diverse. Needs for automation are
growing as companies seek ways to reduce system managers' workloads.
Investments in operation management tools will thus remain strong. In addition,
efforts toward IT governance will gather momentum and an increasing number of
companies will start to review their operation management processes leveraging
the ITIL framework," observes Mitsuhiro Iriya, research analyst, Software, IDC
Japan.
