Abstract
This IDC study provides the updated forecast for the adoption of home networks
in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region, specifically focusing on
the following six key markets tracked by IDC Asia/Pacific' s Consumer Markets
Research team - Australia, India, Korea, the People' s Republic of China (PRC),
Singapore, and Taiwan - as well as the rest of Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan)
or ROAPEJ. The study forecasts the number of households with home networks and
breaks out home networks by application type, including PC home networks,
multimedia home networks, and entertainment home networks.
"The home networking market in the APEJ region continued to gather momentum as
more consumers around the region embrace its more practical applications, such
as sharing broadband Internet access among multiple PCs or sharing printers and
files among PCs. Predictably home networking in mature markets is further along
than those in emerging countries around the APEJ region," says Claudio
Checchia, research manager, Consumer Markets Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. He
further states, "However, although consumers across APEJ seem to understand the
benefits of installing a PC network in their homes, the notion of networked
entertainment remains alien to majority of owners of home networks."
