Abstract
This IDC Buyer Case Study, which focuses primarily on the implementation of
VMware' s virtualization product, provides an organizational overview of the
CSA, followed by an examination of the challenges faced by the CSA, and the
selection of the vendor. IDC interviewed the CSA to get an inside view of the
agency' s migration to a virtualized server environment and has developed a
comprehensive assessment of this ambitious project.
The CSA has a complex, multisite environment, and this case study maps out the
technologies that are in use at the agency and the changes that have been made
over the past three years. While doing so, the case study reveals areas where
virtualization has created new, sometimes unexpected, efficiencies. The results
and benefits, as well as any future plans, are assessed in the latter part of
the study.
