Abstract
This IDC study covers the consumer semiconductor market for 2006-2011, with
forecast and analysis of the following semiconductor markets: digital TV,
videogame consoles and handhelds, portable media players, DVD players and
recorders (including blue laser DVD), set-top boxes, and digital still and
videocameras.
"The consumer semiconductor market will hit $31.1 billion in 2007, up from
$25.6 billion in 2006, and will grow to $33.3 billion in 2011. Unfortunately,
year-over-year semiconductor revenue growth is slowing considerably, and new
entrants continue to enter the market, meaning more companies will chase fewer
dollars until fewer companies exist. Companies playing in the existing spaces
will have to make careful strategic moves to maintain revenue - and margin -
and will absolutely need to be on the lookout for new opportunities in the yet
unknown, and potentially very risky, emerging consumer markets such as media
server, HomeNAS, transcoding, and appliances." - IdaRose Sylvester, senior
research analyst, IDC Consumer Semiconductor program
