Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7330103)
analyzes and forecasts the secure content management and threat management
product markets. In the secure content management product market, antivirus
software has little room left for expansion due to the already high
implementation rate but antispam and Web filtering products are likely to spur
market growth. In the threat management product market, a shift toward
firewall/VPN and IPS/IDS appliances and outsourcing services is taking place
and the software market appears to be headed for its demise.
"Secure content management and threat management products are indispensable as
basic security solutions. However, having infiltrated both the consumer and
business markets to a wide extent, the markets have already reached the matured
phase. However, secure content management products occupy the largest segment
in the security software market and will remain as the linchpin of the security
business as vendors adopt sound strategies that leverage the high infiltration
rate among consumers and the flexibility of software such as marketing and
delivering speedy support/services, and collaborating with appliances and
services vendors. Security solutions that support secure email and Web browsing
such as email security and Web filtering will drive the market from now,"
observes Tohru Inouye, Research Manager, Security, IDC Japan.
