Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7110106)
analyzes the Japan servers market in 2006 by industry and company size, and
also provides a market forecast. It also looks at the server OS implementation
and server investment trends among users in Japan. Based on the results of the
analyses, we forecast the Japan servers market between 2007 and 2011 by
industry.
In the 2006 survey, respondents were asked about the changes in their server
investments in 2006. The results, in particular the percentages of users that
picked "increase" or "unchanged from previous year," were similar to those
found in 2005. Meanwhile, fewer companies picked "increase" with regard to
actual investment value in 2006 or investment plans in 2007. "User investment
trends have stabilized but the number of companies that plan to actively invest
in servers has decreased. In 2006, the economic continued to expand but certain
economic indicators actually pointed to an economic slowdown. Amid this
situation, the number of companies that invest actively decreased. Many
companies are now more circumspect about undertaking investments," observes
Masamichi Karasawa, Senior Analyst, Server, IDC Japan.
