Abstract
This IDC study examines the adoption and usage of mobile and wireless
technology in the Australia business market. As companies begin to leverage
Internet Protocol (IP), mobility is emerging as a top 10 IT investment
priority. However, to take full advantage of this mobility opportunity, IT
managers need to work their way through a series of decisions. This report will
assist IT managers in this process by providing an overview of the drivers and
inhibitors around mobility, discussing the types of applications that
could/should be mobilised, looking at mobility devices that are currently in
use and mobility solutions that are on the horizon. This report also provides
practical assistance with a simple assessment framework to determine what
mobility service provider is right for the organisation and key action items
for enterprise mobility success.
"Driven by the need to be more responsive, more productive, more competitive,
and more cost efficient, Australia organisations should be looking to extract
further gains from their mobility strategies. However, approximately 70% of
Australia businesses are failing to do so. For the enterprise to fully realise
the potential of mobility, IT managers need to negotiate their way through a
labyrinth of complex choices and decisions," states Melissa Martin, senior
market analyst, Enterprise End-User Programmes, IDC Australia.
