Abstract
This IDC study discusses the issues surrounding enhancement of chronic disease
management and care in Canada.
According to Jan Duffy, senior healthcare analyst, IDC Canada, "The World
Health Organization says that, in Canada, chronic diseases accounted for 89% or
207,000 of all deaths in 2005, and by 2015, deaths from chronic disease will
increase by 15%. A number of Canada' s provinces have implemented (or are
implementing) special programs or have made targeted investments to deal with
managing the complexities of chronic care. But, although many of the pieces of
a chronic care management system are in place, further investment will be
required in order to bring them together into a fully integrated model."
