Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7110107)
analyzes the Japan server market in 1H07 (January to June) and presents a
forecast of the 2007-2011 market. The Japan server market totaled 321.014
billion yen in 1H07, and registered a year-on-year revenue growth rate of
-5.2%. The growth rate continued to fall after peaking in 2H05 at 2.7%. Unit
shipments fell 7.2% from the previous year to total 286,155 units, registering
the first negative growth after nine straight terms of positive growth. IDC
recognizes that the Japan server market has plunged into a period of stagnant
demand.
"The x86 server segment has slowed down further in the 1H07 Japan server
market. Unit shipments posted the first negative growth since 2H02. With this,
we have revised downward the 2007 market forecast. We expect the replacement
demand for x86 servers to recover from 2008, while forecasts from 2008 remain
unchanged. IDC forecasts that the Japan server market will contract at a CAGR
of -1.9% from 2006 to 2011," observes Masahiro Nakamura, group manager,
Servers, IDC Japan.
