Abstract
This IDC study provides an analysis and forecast of the U.S. consumer
network-embedded audio devices market. It includes segmentation for portable
and home device form factors. The study has two central sections. The Situation
Overview reviews current market trends and discusses recent developments in the
market, including survey data from IDC' s 2007 Consumer Panel Home Networking
Survey and IDC' s 2007 Consumer Markets: Audio Survey. The Future Outlook
outlines IDC' s assumptions about market trends during the forecast period and
presents forecast data and analysis for the period from 2008 to 2012.
"The pervasiveness of sneakernet solutions, consumer reticence and confusion
about networking technologies, and lack of leadership from major consumer
electronics manufacturers in driving the availability of networked audio
solutions have stymied this market, particularly in the home segment. IDC
expects the networked portable device category to dominate unit shipments
during this forecast period, as vendors such as Apple and its competitors look
to networking as the next frontier in portable device functionality." -
