Abstract
This IDC study presents an updated look at the worldwide PC marketplace going
forward. It incorporates the latest quarter of 4Q07 with a forecast up to 2012.
It is valid as of March 2008 and provides forecast and growth figures for PC
shipments at the worldwide level and for key regional markets. Details include
unit, value, and average system price (ASP) figures, including compound annual
growth rates (CAGRs) for the period 2007-2012. For comparison purposes, the
tables in this document also include historical figures for 2004-2007.
"The PC market looks poised for positive growth in 2008 worldwide, despite the
broadening of economic weakness in specific mature economies. Growth continues
to stem from portable adoption, consumer demand, retail, new technology
offerings, lower prices, and growth in emerging markets. The biggest risk
factor comes from economic uncertainty affecting the United States, potentially
creating a ripple effect through many regions," says Doug Bell, PC Tracker
analyst.
