Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7080103)
conducted an analysis of the Japan PC market trend in the second quarter of
2007 and the present situation, and subsequently forecasted the outlook for its
future. The target of the survey includes all x86 servers, desktop PCs, and
portable PCs. As for the data used in this study, the annual data includes the
actual values until 2006 while expected values are the values used for the
period after 2007. As for data in the fourth quarter, actual values are used
for the period until the second quarter of 2007 (April to June) and expected
values are used for the period from the third quarter of 2007 (July to
September) onwards. All the values have been updated as of September 2007.
"The Japan PC market recovered in the second quarter of 2007 and the home
market finally recorded a positive growth. However, the demand in the business
market has still not recovered because Japan vendors have become selective in
taking orders due to an emphasis on profits. In addition, adoption of Vista
among corporate users is slow. Under such backdrop, replacement cycles in the
business market have been delayed, and we will have to wait until the first
half of 2008 before recovery can be expected," observes Masahiro Katayama,
Group Manager, PCs, IDC Japan.
