Abstract
This study discusses the Western European LAN switching market and vendor
market shares for 2007 and makes comparisons to 2006. The LAN switch market is
analyzed by technology for Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and 10GbE, by OSI
layer for Layers 2, 3, and 4-7, by form factor for modular, non-modular, and
unmanaged LAN switch port shipments and revenue.
A geographical split is included for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
"As the need for intelligent networks becomes stronger the opportunity to
innovate and improve network equipment will create opportunities for networking
vendors. Demand for managed switches in particular is expected to be strong as
enterprises are upgrading and preparing their networks for convergence and new
services," said Evelien Wiggers, research manager, European Enterprise
Networks, IDC.
