Abstract
This IDC study provides our server market share data based on the server
taxonomy that was first introduced in the first half of 2003 and was updated
again last year. Specifically, this study presents the latest worldwide and
U.S. views based on actual annual data through year-end 2007. Worldwide server
factory revenue market growth during the year was 3.6%, rising from $52.5
billion in 2006 to $54.4 billion in 2007.
"This is a high-water mark since the previous peak year in 2000, when annual
revenue was $61.6 billion," said Steve Josselyn, research director of IDC' s
Enterprise Platforms group. "This growth was driven by a variety of factors,
including strong growth in the x86 server segment, which includes the
fast-growing blade server segment. Other factors include IT buildout in
datacenters that are refreshing or transforming their IT infrastructure and
projects that combine virtualization and consolidation to make their IT
infrastructure more efficient through reduced requirements for power/cooling
and improved management."
