Abstract
This IDC study quantifies the U.S. printer market in detail, analyzing issues,
trends, and product advances. It contains IDC' s review and forecast of the U.S.
printer market for 2003-2012. Unit shipment, value of shipment, and average
shipment value (ASV) information are also presented. Data for 2003-2007 is
actual, whereas data for 2007-2012 is projected.
"The U.S. printer market declined overall in 2007 because of the shift from
inkjet printers. Color laser growth slowed in 2007 as some segments reversed
trend and had flat or even declining shipments. The market will have a more
tempered shipment decline for the forecast period for monochrome laser and
inkjet as customers move to higher-productivity segments and to multifunction
peripherals (MFPs)," says Sue Lyon, research director, Hardcopy Peripherals and
Document Solutions.
