Abstract
This IDC study provides a forecast for spending in the Canadian storage systems
market through 2012. Reviewing the underlying technological and market forces
that shape this environment, IDC provides guidance to storage system vendors to
assist in targeting growth areas of the market. The evolution of the Canadian
storage marketplace, away from direct-attached silos to a networked storage
environment continues in Canada. The next wave of consolidation and
virtualization is cautiously poised for take-off.
"The migration to networked storage, fueled by server virtualization and the
desire for more efficient and resilient storage systems, is the single most
important force shaping the Canadian storage market. Vendor success will come
to those vendors that make the most compelling case for a simple transition
away from direct-attached storage. The pending wave of virtualization is the
next evolution as organizations look to address the chronic underutilization
and increased management complexity of installed storage infrastructure." -
