Abstract
This IDC study outlines our forecast for the Canadian information,
communications and technology (ICT) markets for the five-year period between
2008 and 2012. It updates our previous forecast document, Canadian ICT
2007-2011 Forecast Summary (IDC #CA3ITMP7, May 2007) and its main purpose is to
outline the trends and direction of all three major IT markets (hardware,
software, and services) as well as the top-line communications forecast over
the five-year forecast. It is the single most comprehensive report on the
Canadian ICT market produced by IDC Canada.
"While the economic environment is increasingly challenging, the value and
business advantages driven by investments in ICT continue to be strong, and in
many cases could be the key investment to make to ensure an organization' s
positive short- and long-term business prospects," says Vito Mabrucco, senior
vice president, Worldwide Consulting, and Managing Director, IDC Canada. "If
there is ever a good time to gain competitive advantage it is when there is
uncertainty in the market. With a sound strategic plan, and excellent
execution, this is the time for winners to gain a stronger position in their
markets, or potentially enter new markets."
